2016 Kids! Holiday Gift Guide

This Christmas, I decided that it was important to not go overboard with spending. I picked a few items for my “Kids! Holiday Gift Guide” that your children will absolutely adore. Here is my rule of thumb, choose one thing in each category: start with something that they want, something that they need, something to wear, plenty to read, something that they take time to create or make, a treat to eat & a little something extra. From my Carseat Dancers to yours, we wish you a Merry Christmas!

Happy shopping!

Joovy Groove // Stroller Review

Umbrella strollers are essential for a growing family. When your kid has outgrown the travel system, and you need a stroller for getting around town fast, that does not take up a lot of space, many parents opt for an umbrella stroller. With so many lightweight strollers on the market it can be hard to decipher between them all. So, here is my review of the Joovy Groove umbrella stroller, one of my go-to everyday strollers.  Even though the Groove is lightweight it is still very functional.
Joovy Groove Stroller Review
Stroller Checklist:
Is the price point under $300?
Yes, the $199.99 price tag on the Joovy Groove may sound a tad high for an umbrella stroller. But, the quality and grit of this particular one is well worth the price.

Can it be folded with the seat attached?
This stroller has a seat that is permanently attached and cannot be removed therefore it is able to be folded with the seat attached.

Does it have a cup holder?
Technically, this stroller has four, YES – 4, cupholders two for the baby and two for me. The placement of the “Essential Parent Organizer” is perfect and allows me to stash all of my mommy essentials.

Are the tires foam or need air?
It makes me so happy knowing that I don’t need to worry about a flat with the Joovy Groove since the tires are foam.

Is the seat forward and rear facing?
The forward facing seat allows my baby to see the World as we stroll. The high-back and wider seat frame is perfect for toddlers and leggy preschoolers too. 20140316-110352.jpg

Is the storage space large enough to hold a bag of groceries?
The under storage is large enough for a bag of groceries and I’ve been known to hold grocery bags on each of its sturdy handles as well. This is one hefty umbrella stroller!

Can I fold it with one hand?
It takes one hand and one foot to fold. Holding a sleeping baby? No problem. Still drinking your coffee? No problem. Folding is a breeze.

Can I push it with one hand?
Pushing with one hand for any long period is a tad difficult.

Can it be used from birth?
No, the Joovy Groove stroller can accommodate a child from 3 months up to 55 lbs.

Will it fit in the trunk of my car?
With a handle height of 42.5 inches, full dimensions: 45.2 x 11.0 x 10.0, it fits nicely into the trunk of a small car.

Recently, in my Chevy Traverse, {See my car review.} I fit an open Joovy Groove — I was giving Greenie as a gift at a baby shower — along with another stroller, a filled gift bag and a few other items into my trunk!

Bonus Question: Is it easy enough for my tall husband to push?
As mentioned, the handle height is 42.5 inches high which makes pushing super comfortable for tall parents. No hunching over. No back pain. This is a great umbrella stroller compared to the others on the market, it’s perfect for travel and leisure // everyday use, for the average-sized person and tall parents alike.

Room for improvement?
Hmmm… The only thing that I would improve would be to change the dual-handles to one. I have found that having only ONE handle makes for better, single-handed, smooth steering and maneuverability. All of which come in handy when you are a new parent.

Cheers to Happy Strolling!

Mommy’s Spa Day // Glen Ivy Hot Springs

A few other Mom friends and I needed a day to get away from the reality of our everyday. Being off for summer vacation sure has us spending loads of time home-bound & buried with kids & toys, well… aside from the quick city jaunts & daily swims & walks. 🙂

I kissed my Carseat Dancers and dear husband adios {He was getting ready to take the girls to my helpful mother-in-law’s for the day. Thanks Kay!} and hit the pavement heading a short thirty-five miles to Glen Ivy Spa & Hot Springs. Glen Ivy is a little jewel nestled in the foothills of Corona, CA. A beauty; well worth the trip.

This is the message on their site: “Whether your first or fiftieth visit, we wish you a day of healthful rejuvenation — to be yourself, to relax and renew, to celebrate and unwind, and above all, a day that leaves you feeling revitalized with a deeper sense of wellbeing.” Sounds fantastic, right? I couldn’t have said it better. {Hence my reasoning for posting their message.} This place is a must see; the results are extremely rejuvenating and oh so needed.

Here, the possibilities for relaxation are endless. Our first stop, the Terrace Pools were where we bounced back and forth from the Hot Pool to Cold Plunge to Hot Pool for capillary stimulation. An interesting feeling; tantalizing the senses.

Next, we headed toward the infamous Mineral “Baths.” {I’m emphasizing with the term “infamous” because of the Sulphur (eggy) filled steam that fills the air here. Pee you!} Glen Ivy’s geothermal hot springs who’s temperature were a relaxing 104°F truly are famous and oh so relaxing. Soaking in these waters was extremely calming and the perfect place to soak with my friends.

Just prior to lunch we headed to what ended up being our favorite spot, Club Mud. This pool is a red clay mineral bath that coats your exposed limbs, making everyone who enters appear tan. {You can’t help but chuckle at all of the mud bathers who exit the pool. LMAO!}
20130623-230331.jpg
After slathering our bodies with the “mud” we hit the sauna then lounged in the afternoon sun allowing the clay to harden. Having a hardened face sure makes smiling a chore. We took a few photos. Then, began to vigorously rube our arms and legs… exfoliating our dead cells and exposing soft reinvigorated skin, drawing out impurities and causing us to feel oh so smooth. Talk about leisure.

Ahhhh… {We brought our own cucumbers solely for this photo opportunity.} The other spa-goers found us hilarious. Pictured from left to right: Me, Rayna, Nicole & Jenny.
20130623-231453.jpg

We headed to lunch. The Mediterranean cuisine at Café Solé was Five Star quality and completely organic and crafted with local ingredients. Yum yum. My friend and co-worker, Nicole, said, “This food is one of the reasons why I love this place… My mom is going to be jealous.” LOL! We inhaled the delicious Chipotle BBQ Chicken Pizza- made with Grilled Free Range Chicken Breast, Smoked Gouda, Mozzarella, Red Onions & Chipotle Barbecue Sauce. Chatted a bit. Laughed.

With full bellies and sore cheeks we stormed the crowded Lounge Pool, waited a bit {well worth the wait} for the amazing Sunsation Pool Floats and cooled off for an hour or so. The following photo was borrowed from http://www.kootation.com. As we were so relaxed that we forgot to take pictures in this pool and almost forgot about our lives beyond the stone Grotto walls of Glen Ivy. Really. Almost.
20130623-235100.jpg

Such a fantastic getaway. We’ll be back Glen Ivy.

For those interested in Taking the Waters, the spa has some specials. My friends & I are teachers and to show their appreciation to us, for our teaching service, we graciously received a 10% discount on admission. To show appreciation to others who dedicate their lives to serving others, they also offer a 10% discount on Taking the Waters admission to Military (active and Veterans), First Responders (including nurses) and Seniors (ages 65+). {A valid ID and/or work badge is required.} If you’re celebrating your birthday at the Hot Springs call, in advance, to hear about their gift to you. {Reminder: Valid identification is required at check-in for proof of actual birthdate.}

Check out my previous blog entry {Mommy on the Go… | vol. 20} for thoughtful gift ideas that can be purchased in the Spa’s Lifestyle Store. A Glen Ivy gift card would be the perfect gift for any occasion.

Cheers to Moms & Rejuvenation!

Mumford & Sons to Celebrate 10 Years {Happily} Married to My Main Squeeze

To celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary I took my hubby to the Mumford & Sons concert. We had a fantastic little getaway and totally recommend seeing these phenomenal musicians. Local food trucks {Bacon MANia was my fave.}, libations, colorful decorations and the pre-show, especially the giddiness of the silly, talented, Wonderful Glorious EELS, made for an enjoyable afternoon. The show began at dusk and consisted of a fun laser and light show; it was super romantic! They sang a considerable mix of current hits and “older” songs to create a lovely ambiance and memorable show.
